Maurice Benayoun is an Algerian born, French pioneer new-media artist and theorist based between Paris and Hong Kong. His work employs various media, including (and often combining) video, immersive virtual reality, the Internet, wireless technologies, performance art, large-scale urban art installations and interactive exhibitions. One of Benayoun’s seminal works, The Tunnel Under the Atlantic was a tele-virtual project linking the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal – the first of its kind, the piece demonstrated Benayoun’s unique capabilities. In 2012, Benayoun accepted a Professorship at the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong.
